Does your child have a story inside of them waiting to be written? Young Authors is an ongoing writing experience for students in 2nd–12th grade who want to imagine, create, and develop stories of their own.

Each session combines an engaging story-writing lesson with supported writing time, giving writers opportunities to learn new techniques and immediately put them into practice. Lessons explore topics such as idea generation, character development, worldbuilding, plot and story structure, dialogue, description, revision, editing, and more.

Writers work at their own pace and on their own projects, choosing the format that best fits the stories they want to tell. They may write a chapter book, short story, picture book, comic, graphic novel, or another form of creative storytelling.

During supported writing time, writers receive individualized guidance, encouragement, and feedback from experienced writers and editors as they develop their ideas, strengthen their storytelling skills, and discover their unique writing voice.

There is no expectation that a story be completed within a certain number of sessions. Writers may join throughout the semester, attend the sessions that work for them, and continue developing their writing across multiple semesters. Some writers may spend several sessions building one story, while others may experiment with different characters, genres, or projects. The focus is on growing as a writer, not rushing toward a finished product.

For writers who do complete a manuscript and would like to take the next step, additional editing, digital formatting, and publishing options are available for an additional fee.
